How to add an IMAP email account to your iPad and iPhone

Adding an IMAP email account to your iDevice is very easy to do.
This post is for your custom domain or work email, web based email like Gmail, Yahoo and AOL are slightly different.

STEP 1 – Touch the SETTINGS button

STEP 2 – Touch Mail, Contacts, Calendars

 

STEP 3 – Touch Add Mail Account

STEP 4 – Touch Other

STEP 5 – Fill in the details

Email details NAME – This is the name you want to show as the sender of your emails. It can be anything like your first name only or first and last, anything you want people to see.

ADDRESS –  This is your full email address. example@domain.com

PASSWORD – This is your email password, set by you or assigned by your provider or employer.

DESCRIPTION – This can be any descriptive name. Its handy if you have more than one email on your device as it shows this name under the Accounts heading in the email app. For example My Work email.

Touch Next

The heading should briefly change to Looking up Account.

 

STEP 6 – Touch IMAP if it is not already selected and fill in incoming and outgoing server info.

INCOMING MAIL SERVER

HOST NAME – Should be given to you by your provider or employer

USER NAME – Should be given to you by your provider or employer

PASSWORD – Should already be filled in

OUTGOING MAIL SERVER

HOST NAME – Should be given to you by your provider or employer

USER NAME – Optional, only if you were given this info.

PASSWORD – Optional, only if you were given this info.

Touch Next

The heading should change to Verifying, this could take a bit longer

 

Step 7 – Touch Save

The heading should briefly change to Adding Account and you should now see your new email under Accounts.

Now launch the Mail app and try your new email
