Add an IMAP email to your Android device with Hostgator

IMAP is the best way to setup emails on your device. For all the benefits and how it works see this post

STEP 1 – Touch the SETTINGS button

STEP 2 – Depending on the version of your device the location of the ACCOUNTS button could be different. In this example its in the General Tab.

STEP 3 – Touch the + Add account button

STEP 5 – Fill in the basic info from your email provider, starting with the full email address and the password. You can touch the Show password button to unhide the password. If you want to always use this account as default, be sure to check the default box.

STEP 6 – Touch the Next button

STEP 7 – Touch the IMAP account button

STEP 8 – The next screen should show your email address already filled in. Check the username, by default it will fill in your name only. Be sure to add @yourdomain.com, since Hostgator considers your username to be your full email address.

STEP 9 – Check the IMAP server field. Again it will fill in an incorrect default imap.domain.com. Hostgator uses mail.domain.com, so be sure and change it.

STEP 10 – For the Security type choose SSL (Accept all certificates) and your port should change to 993

STEP 11 – Touch the NEXT button
It will check your server and if all your information is correct you can continue.
If you get this error, you need to go back and check your settings, something is wrong.

STEP 12 – The Outgoing server settings page has more default info you need to change. SMTP server needs to be mail.yourdomain.com

STEP 13 – The Security type needs to be SSL (Accept all certificates).

STEP 14 – Confirm the Port number changed to 465.

STEP 15 – Confirm the Require Sign-in box is checked, and also fill in your full email in the username.

STEP 16 – Touch the Next button
It will check your server again and if all your information is correct you can continue.
If you get an error, you need to go back and check your settings, something is wrong.

STEP 17 – If you made it to the Account options your almost done.
Here you can set how many emails you want to have on your device. All of them or for a select number of weeks.
The best option is All unless your device is short on storage space. You can always change this later. Emails that don’t show on your device are always safe on the server.

STEP 18 – Set the Sync schedule to choose how often your device checks for new mail. Don’t forget you can always manually check too. The default 15 minutes is a good place to start and you can always change this later.

STEP 19 – Touch the Next button.

STEP 20 – Your account is setup, you have the option of naming this account, for example Work email and also how your name is displayed to the recipient of the email.

Touch Done and start using your email.
